The 6th annual Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic got underway on Sunday 12 March with three days of golf and three evening events.
The Pines golf course saw the first day of play commence with 138 ladies playing from over 22 golf clubs from around Australia. The ladies eased into the three-day event with a 4-Person Ambrose, playing with friends and meeting new ones.
Golf Professional Matt Ballard greeted the ladies on the 13th hole with cheese and fruit platters and bottled water, and offered his approach shot skills in exchange for a donation for the Zephyr Foundation, which helps children at domestic violence shelters continue their education. Matt raised $439.10 for the charity, while a further $7,000 were raised for this cause by the sale of raffle tickets throughout the event. This is a fantastic achievement and all ladies’ generosity is highly valued.
After the day’s play, the ladies enjoyed cold beverages and canapés in Lakeview Bar and were treated to live music while prizes were presented to the day’s winners.
Day 2 of the Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic was the first round of the Single Stableford played over two days. All players were competing for the major prize of a diamond studded putter.
Rain greeted the ladies as they headed out to The Palms golf course to start their round, but fortunately the wet conditions eased off and allowed for some great scores. The day’s highlight was a superb hole-in-one by Elizabeth Meek on the 11th hole. Elizabeth celebrated her first hole-in-one with a bottle of champagne. Congratulations again!
After a relaxing afternoon to freshen up, the ladies returned to Lakeview Bar for a formal dinner. A three-course meal was enjoyed by all and while drinks flowed, the day’s presentations were made. The band played well into the night which saw the dance floor come to life.
The Pines golf course hosted the final round of the Single Stableford event. With the threat of a downpour not eventuating, the ladies only had strong winds to contend with.
At the evening’s buffet and presentation dinner, the winner of the coveted diamond studded putter and Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic trophy was announced.
We were delighted to welcome back 2016’s winner Jenny Schultz, who fought hard to defend her title. She played well enough to keep her crown as division one winner, however she was out-played by Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club’s very own Maz Morgan. Maz became the 2017 Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic winner on a countback with a final score of 67 points, narrowly beating Jennifer Palmer of Emerald Lakes Golf Club.
Congratulations to all the winners who took home lovely prizes.
Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club wishes to thank all of those who participated in this year’s event and trust you enjoyed your time at Sanctuary Cove.
We look forward to seeing many of you again next year for an even better Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic.
