The 6th annual Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic got underway on Sunday 12 March with three days of golf and three night functions.
The Pines golf course saw the first day of play commence with 138 ladies playing from over 22 Clubs from all around Australia.
The Ladies eased into the 3-day event with a with a 4-Person Ambrose, playing with friends and meeting new ones. This event was fun filled day with lots of laughs and fun had by all.
Golf Professional, Matt Ballard, greeted the ladies on the 13th hole with cheese and fruit platters and cold bottled water and was offering his approach shot skills in exchange for a donation for the Zephyr Foundation which helps children at domestic violence shelters continue with their education. Matt managed to raise nearly $439.10 for the charity, with a further $7,000 raised by raffle ticket purchases throughout the event. This is a fantastic achievement and something all of the Ladies should be very proud of.
After the day’s play, the ladies enjoyed some cold beverages and canapes in the Lakeview Bar and were treated to live music while the prizes were presented to the day’s winners.
Day 2 of the Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic was the first round of the Single Stableford event which was played over two days. All players were competing for the major prize of a diamond studded putter.
As the ladies headed out to The Palms golf course to start their round, the rain greeted them, however didn’t stay around for very long, allowing for some great scores. The days highlight was a superb hole in one for Elizabeth Meek on the 11th hole. Elizabeth celebrated her first hole in one with a nice bottle of Champagne.
After a break from the golf to freshen up, the ladies returned to the Lakeview Bar for the formal dinner. A lovely 3 course meal was enjoyed by all, while drinks flowed, the days’ presentations were made and the band played into the night, seeing the dance floor come to life.
The Pines golf course hosted the final round of the Single Stableford event and with the threat of a downpour not eventuating, the ladies only had the strong winds to contend with.
At the evenings buffet and presentation dinner, the winner of the coveted diamond studded putter and Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic trophy was announced.
2016’s winner, Jenny Schultz was back to defend her title and although played well enough to keep her crown as division one winner, she was out played by Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club’s very own Maz Morgan who took out the overall winner of the Ladies Golf Classic in a countback and a final score of 67 points narrowly beating out Jennifer Palmer of Emerald Lakes who was the runner up.
Congratulations to all the day’s winners who took home some lovely prizes.
