Sanctuary Cove is home to copious breeds of wildlife.  The fauna compliment Sanctuary Cove in a way that restores life and personality to the Northern Gold Coast.  One can only appreciate the beauty and tranquility that the wildlife instill after witnessing a flock of corellas in flight late afternoon or a group of kangaroos basking in the early morning sunlight. From kangaroos to kookaburras sitting in the old gum tree, the selection is vast and employs an appreciation that must be witnessed firsthand.  The Cove is home to various breeds of fish, reptiles, insects, mammals, amphibians and birds that each instills its’ own unique qualities to Gores’ Wonderland.  Sanctuary Cove has been listed as an Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, ensuring The Cove remains a valuable part of the local conservation landscape and maintains eco-friendly golf courses. Sanctuary Cove is renowned for being a haven for the rich and famous.  The celebrities don’t stop rolling in at mere humans though, movie star geese are also calling Sanctuary Cove home.

A number of the white geese that populate the pristine lakes within Sanctuary Cove can also be seen in the movie ‘Babe’.  A heartfelt film about a talking pig that believes it can round up sheep as well as dogs, the geese (also talking) in the film play haggling and impressive supporting roles.  Shortly after the film was released in 1995, the geese were relocated to Sanctuary Cove where they remain in solitude to this day.

The unseasonal warm weather that the Gold Coast maintains ensures that breeding patterns for birds, sea life and mammals is quite irregular.  Typically, one would hear the calls of adolescent wildlife in spring, but it is often seen that breeding patterns will be present from spring all through summer and often into autumn as well.  Unfortunately, extremely hot consecutive summer days, will also have a devastating impact on marine life, causing all oxygen in the lakes to drop dramatically, death being imminent.

Wildlife is an important facet of the Sanctuary Cove community and the health and wellbeing of the animals is focal.  Staff and residents have been contributing to the cause for many years.

Wendy Nelson fell into the responsibility of Wildlife Representative of Sanctuary Cove in 2010 and has continued to expand her knowledge of the native wildlife.  Wendy’s passion and knowledge of animals is profound and her drive to educate others is an important aspect of her duty.  Wendy has been a lifesaver for so many of the animals in Sanctuary Cove, caring them back to health and then passing them onto other carers for ongoing nursing, Wendy continues to press for new ways to improve the conditions for Sanctuary Cove fauna along with resident awareness and much needed funding.

The Brekky Club of Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club have been raising and donating funds to the wildlife of Sanctuary Cove for some time now.  Without these donations, the works that go towards improving the sustainability and living conditions for these beautiful creatures would not be possible.  The Club are accepting donations* from those that wish to also have a hand in making The Cove a sanctuary for the inhabitant animals.

Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club is committed to the well being of Sanctuary Cove wildlife.  It is for this reason that a website page has been dedicated to informing the community of the lively scenery.  Keep your eyes on this website as there will be valuable information added continuously.Where else would you rather be, than Sanctuary Cove?
