The Match and Greens Committee of Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club have organised a working bee for Members on Tuesday 6 June.

The working bee will focus on filling in divots on the fairways and clearing up any sticks or branches in the pine trees so that we can begin cleaning up the pine cones with our machine.

Members will be walking The Pines golf course while completing the above tasks.  At the completion of the Working Bee, there will be complimentary beverages and snacks available to Members that participated in Lakeview Bar.

Location: Meet at The Pines practice putting greens at 2:50pm

As of this Saturday 27 May, there will no longer be a barbecue option available for Members at the halfway point of competition golf.

A newly created menu that Members can order from while on-course has been designed to replace the barbecue. This menu can be viewed here.

Place your order between 8:30am and 2:30pm by phoning the Golf Shop on 07 5699 9008. Orders must be placed a minimum of 15 minutes prior to collection. Collection and payment of your order is from The Pines Golf Shop.

Members and their guests are invited to the Club on Tuesdays to enjoy a specially designed two-course lunch menu in Lakeview Bar.

Selecting only the finest local ingredients, our chefs will create a delicious weekly two-course menu accompanied by a glass of wine for you to enjoy.

Over the past 12 months the Match Committee have been asked to consider changing the Men’s C Grade Monthly Medal on The Pines golf course from the Blue Tees back to the Black Tees as it was several years ago.

The Match Committee has recently completed an informal survey with the majority of the Men’s C Grade competition golfers.  Over 80% of the Members surveyed requested that the Men’s C Grade Monthly Medal remain off the Blue Tees.

At the recent May meeting the Match Committee decided that the Men’s C Grade Monthly Medal will remain on the Blue Tees.  If any Members have any concerns over this decision please email Ryan Gailey.

The 2017 Gold Coast District Golf Association (GCDGA) Interclub Pennant season is scheduled to commence in July this year. We would like to invite our Members to participate in the upcoming Pennant series, which include the Match Play Interclub Pennant, the Senior Pennant and the Super Senior Pennant.

The first round for the 2017 Match Play Interclub Home & Away will be played on Sunday 2 July in A, B and C Grade.

Your GA handicap as at 5 June will determine which grade you qualify for, with the grades defined as follows:

A – GA 0-9
B – GA 10-16
C – GA 17-24

This series will precede the Senior and the Super Senior Pennant for the 2017 John Goss Shield, which begins on Monday 7 August 2017.

Senior Pennant is not handicapped, and players must be of, or over the age of 50 prior to 7 August to meet the eligibility criteria.

The Super Senior series is a Match Play handicap competition without handicap limits, and players must play in handicap order. To be eligible, competitors must be of, or over the age of 60 prior to 7 August 2017.

If you wish to take part in one of this year’s GCDGA Pennant series, please add your name to the lists provided on the notice board in the golf shop. Should you have any questions regarding either series or joining one of the Pennant teams, please contact Ryan Gailey via email.

On 20 May, the Social Committee hosted the  Vive la France Dinner in The Jabiru Restaurant.

Members and their guests’ enjoyed a French style four-course meal while being entertained by Can Can girls, a French singer and then danced the night away to the sounds of Joe Phillips. Click here to view images from the event.

Congratulations to Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Member Services Manager Laura Liebenau and her partner Matt on the safe arrival of Noah Jones on 16 May at 2:20am. Noah weighed 3.3kg and was 52.5cm long. Both Laura and Noah are doing well.

Congratulations to Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Golf Operations Manager Tim Bray and wife Bree on the safe arrival of Madison Linda Bray on 19 May at 12:16pm. Madison weighed 2.8kg and was 49cm long. Both Bree and Madison are doing well.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea eventAustralia’s Biggest Morning Tea

Sanctuary Cove Country Club’s annual Australia Biggest Morning Tea event in support of Cancer Council Queensland was held on Tuesday 16 May at the brand-new Arnie’s function room. Guests were entertained by the lovely Faye Wyer who kindly emceed the morning. A wonderful selection of clothing and swimwear was paraded by Calypso Swimwear and Sanctuary Cove Resort Shoppe, as well as a lovely display of intimate apparel from Champagne for Breakfast, located on Chevron Island. PGA Golf Professional Ashleigh Blacksell is holding a number of Ladies’ Group Golf Clinics which are open to both Members and the public.

These clinics will be held on the below Tuesdays from 9am-10:30am:

  • Tuesday 4 July 2017
  • Tuesday 18 July 2017
  • Tuesday 1 August 2017
  • Tuesday 15 August 2017

The cost is $200 per person for 6 clinics or, $40 per clinic. The price includes coffee and cake after each clinic in Lakeview Bar.

A reminder to all Members that correct parking on the golf courses will assist in maintaining healthier course conditions.  It is also a responsibility as a passenger or playing partner to advise fellow Members in your playing group if they are parking their buggys in the incorrect areas.  This will limit any unnecessary damage to our beautiful golf courses. The next event on the Social Sunday calendar is the Florida Ambrose competition, which will be played on Sunday 28 May and will be a 12pm shotgun start.  This event is also round one of the Mixed Winter Challenge which is a Mixed competition with five qualifying rounds.  The top two pairs from each event qualify for the final, which will be played on Sunday 27 August.

For those players whose partners do not play golf, a register is now available in the Golf Shop for any Member seeking a partner for mixed events.

Following golf, enjoy Sunday Casual Dining in Lakeview Bar, as well as the Weekly Members’ Draw.

Dinner bookings will be taken prior to the event in the Golf Shop.

Every year, the Sanctuary Cove Ladies enjoy a golf day against Royal Queensland’s lady golfers.  This year, the event will be hosted by Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club on Monday 29 May 2017. Two Sanctuary Cove Ladies will play with two Royal Queensland Ladies to make up each four.  The competition will be a 4BBB Stableford with an 8:30am shotgun start on The Pines golf course. Following golf, Ladies’ will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch prepared by Sous Chef Jamie-Lee Goodger in Lakeview Bar.

Ladies wishing to play in this event should register via the online tee sheet.

This Ladies’ event attracts healthy competition each year, and it is always a very enjoyable day.

The Club continues to proudly host Nine and Dine events on Thursday afternoons.  This format has continued to grow over the past two years and further advancements will make these afternoon events even better.  Nine and Dine now has a full schedule for 2017 and will feature different themed dining for each event.  This is a pleasant mix of golf and food, allowing Members and their guests to play a fun golf competition and enjoy a meal in Lakeview Bar with fellow Members and guests after their round.

Join us for the next Nine and Dine afternoon, commencing with golf at 2:30pm in a shotgun start format. Following 9 holes of golf, enjoy tapas and tasting plates in Lakeview Bar for $15 per person, which includes your competition fee.  Members are invited to bring a guest for just $50 per person.

The next event will be held on Thursday 8 June. Golf will be played as a 4-Person Ambrose.

Rebecca (Bec) commenced her employment at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club in October 2016 as a Food and Beverage Attendant in the Clubhouse. Along with her professional and friendly demeanour, Bec’s optimistic personality as an organised, forward-thinking and initiative-taking individual shone through, leading to her promotion to become the Club’s Food and Beverage Coordinator in March this year.

The Members drawn in last week’s draw were Mr Brian Hurley and Mr Ken McArthur. Mr Hurley and Mr McArthur were not present, therefore this week’s draw value will jackpot to $2,000 Club Credit.

This Sunday, there will be three chances to find a winner. In order to claim the Members’ Draw, the winner must be present in Lakeview Bar at the time of the draw. If the winner is not present, the draw will jackpot to $2,100 Club Credit next week with another three chances to win.
