Weekly Update Friday 5 May 2017

5-MayNEED-TO-KNOWimage2Congratulations to the Division One Men’s Pennant Team

Congratulations to the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Men’s Division One Pennant Team on the Club’s first ever Gold Coast District Golf Association 2017 Pennant Flag.

The team took on Burleigh Golf Club in the final at Links Hope Island on Sunday 30 April, but did not start its matches as strongly as hoped. Despite being down in four matches, there were enough holes left to allow for a possible fightback. The charge was led by team Captain Paul Smerdon fighting back from 4 down after 10 holes and winning a tight match on the 18th hole. Bailey Knoll then fought back from 3 down for an all-important halve. Unfortunately, Terrence Ng was out-played, with his opponent scorching apart the Links Hope Island layout. Kade McBride played superb golf in a convincing 4 & 3 victory, and Tony Lee came back from 2 down to record a 1-up win. The team’s youngest Member Mitchell Varley secured the all-important halve, which was enough to see the team take out the 2017 title.  This then set the stage for number one player Dylan Perry to birdie two of the final three holes to win 1 up and give Sanctuary Cove a 5-2 win.

A special mention to the team Captain Paul Smerdon for all his efforts throughout the season. The team played all matches, particularly the final, in commendable spirit. Thank you to all the Members who came to watch the final and to the caddies for their hard work throughout the season.

The Club looks forward to displaying its first Men’s Division One Pennant Flag in the Club.

BannerTextPaul McLeanWatering in the Morning by Paul McLean

The best time to water your lawn is the early morning, to allow the sun to dry the grass throughout the day. Night-time watering can result in prolonged moisture on the blades, which can open the door for some diseases. It’s better to water less often but for prolonged periods. Just wetting down the grass isn’t watering the grass. You need to soak the lawn so the soil moisture goes down several inches.

Good to Know
Are you watering enough? Try the soup can test. Set an empty can next to your lawn sprinkler. When there is about a 1/2 inch of water in the can, it’s time to turn off the sprinkler.
