2016 Summer Challenge
The Club’s inaugural Summer Challenge for 2016 has come to an end after six events were played on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons throughout the holiday period.
Members and their guests played 9 holes of a fun-style format which changed for each event, followed by a nice meal in Lakeview Bar. The Summer Challenge was capped off with big hole golf in the final round.
Thank you to all the Members who supported this event, and we look forward to making the event bigger and better in 2017.

Weekly Members’ Draw now Jackpots to a Maximum of $5000 Club Credit
In 2017, the Weekly Members’ Draw will be drawn once each Sunday in Lakeview Bar during Casual Sunday Dining. If the winner is not present, the draw will jackpot by $100 Club Credit a week to a maximum of $5000 Club Credit.
The Members drawn in last week’s Members’ draw were Jocelyne Lafleur and Marcelle Rechena. Jocelyne and Marcelle were not present therefore this week’s draw value has jackpot to $1500 Club Credit.
If the winner drawn on Sunday 8 January is not present, the draw will jackpot to $1600 Club Credit on Sunday 15 January. Should the jackpot be won, the total prize pool will revert back to $1000 Club Credit the following Sunday.

2017 Buggy Stickers
2017 Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Buggy Stickers are now available. Members can collect their stickers from Member Services Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm and Saturday 8am – 1pm.
Buggy stickers will be available to Members upon payment of membership subscription invoices issued 1 December 2016.
Members are not permitted to use their carts on either of the courses without displaying a 2017 Member Buggy Sticker.

2017 Nine and Dine Events
In 2017 the Club will be continuing Nine and Dine events on Thursday afternoons. This format has continued to grow over the past two years and changes in 2017 will make these afternoon events even better.
Golf will be a 2:30pm shotgun start over 9 holes followed by dinner in Lakeview Bar. The cost in 2017 is $20 and includes the competition fee and dinner which will be themed for each event. Members are invited to bring a guest for just $50 per person.

Golf Course Renovations Process
Removes matt and thatch
Promotes new shoot and root growth
Helps in the control of disease outbreaks

Restores and improves the putting surface
Assists with plant recovery
Improves soil structure through soil amendments
Increases microbial activity
The golf course benefits from renovations as they improve overall plant health, reduce surface drainage, relieve compaction, offset and displace sodium and promote overall new growth in vegetation.
The renovations our Golf Course Maintenance team undertake are necessary in order to continue to provide the two high-standard golf courses consistently throughout the year. The impact to the conditions of the course should see a full recovery to optimal playing conditions in six weeks, depending on weather.
The proposed timing of golf course renovations is not taken lightly. Your patience and co-operation throughout the renovation periods will be greatly appreciated.
Shootout and Eclectic 2017
The Match Committee has made a small change to the Conditions of Play for the Shootout and Eclectic competitions for 2017.
The competitions have begun and will run through until Monday 20 November for Ladies and Wednesday 22 November for Men.
Optional competitions are not included in either of the events and rounds that qualify must be played on holes 1-18 of The Pines golf course. No substitute holes can be a part of a qualifying round in either event.

Moët & Chandon Champagne
Throughout January, Moët & Chandon Champagne is available in Lakeview Bar and The Jabiru Restaurant for $90 per bottle.
Directional Signage and Roped Areas
Both The Pines and The Palms golf courses display directional signage and roped areas, which are in place to minimise damage to worn areas.
To assist in maintaining and improving both of our beautiful golf courses, we kindly request that all cart signs are obeyed and golf carts remain on paths around all tees and greens.
On Friday 27 January, the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Board and Management will be hosting the first New Members Welcome and Cocktail Party for 2017 to welcome new Equity Members of the Club.
All Members are invited to attend the Cocktail Party from 6pm for drinks and canapés followed by optional dining in The Jabiru Restaurant.
Attendance at the Cocktail Party is complimentary for Members who dine in The Jabiru Restaurant afterwards and enjoy the table d’hôte menu.

On Sunday 29 January, the Club will be celebrating Australia Day with our annual ‘Australia vs The Rest of the World’ golf challenge.
In spirit of Australia Day, Members will enjoy a traditional Australian meal before golf including meat pies and lamingtons. Following golf, a sumptuous Australian-style buffet will be served.
Members are encouraged to dress in traditional colours of the nation they are representing.

Putt Like a Pro with Matt Ballard
What happens when you hit the perfect putt on the perfect line with the perfect speed. Does it always go in? No.
“Why not?,” you ask. Aside from green imperfections and wind or external factors, not all putts hit perfectly go in the hole.
I have found that the two major factors attributing to missed short putts – the ones we want to make or expect to make, aside from a poor putting stroke – are:
1. Green reading skills – a skill that can be learned
2. Aiming – because we play golf side on to the ball almost all golfers need help with alignment
I also believe these are the two most neglected factors when trying to improve your putting statistics. Most people change putters, change their grip style or change their stroke.
This can work in some cases, but how many of you have had your alignment tested with a laser? You will be surprised how many people are unable to aim at the hole with the putter from 6ft. Eight out of ten people I have tested fail this test. If you aren’t aimed correctly from this distance, how can you expect to make all the putts you want?
Let me help you aim better. Much like aiming the putter, our eyes have the biggest influence over what we see and how we see the world. This is the problem with green reading, as our eyes can and will play tricks on your green reading.
