Line_Grey_120037CDBAC0-95AD-4B87-8B0C-FB11D9C00FF4The 8th Green on The Pines Golf Course

The 8th green on The Pines golf course has been a challenge over the years with regards to maintaining a consistent coverage of grass. It has received varying degrees of special attention by way of re-turf and patching in areas on multiple occasions. Reasons for the inconsistencies include a combination of poor water quality, lack of sunlight and inadequate drainage. Growing grass in the shade of the pine trees is difficult and coupled with lack of drainage and low oxygen levels, makes it even more challenging.

Recently the maintenance team has endeavoured to locate the drainage outlet on the front of the green, complete a flush out and re-turf the area. It is the intention that this process will help the green to drain quicker, aiding in the ability to grow healthy sustainable grass.

HOME-LAWN-CARETurfSpot Train your Dog

If you have a dog that spends any time in your yard, your lawn will show it. Large yellow and dead spots in your lawn will be giveaways. The nitrogen in dog urine is the culprit. Encourage your dog to use just one spot in the yard. Make a gravel or mulch area where your dog can do his business without spotting the lawn.

Yard-train your dog in the same way you house-trained him. Walk him out to the area you want him to use and use treats to reward good behaviour.

Golf-professionalsmatt-ballardMatt Ballard

Why do so many golfers have trouble aiming correctly? On a regular basis I see golfers having trouble with the seemingly simple ability to aim at the desired target.
Which do you think is the most important?

1 – Feet aimed correctly?
2 – Shoulders and arms to be aligned?
3 – Club face to be aimed correctly?

If you answered number 1, like most people, then you are wrong. Your feet have least relevance to aiming.  Correct answer is the club face being aimed correctly, since that is what hits the golf ball.

With the luxury we have with technology now, teaching with launch monitors and Trackman, we are able to tell that the club face is responsible for starting the ball on the correct direction for up to 80 to 90% in some cases. So therefore the feet and how they are aligned are less relevant than most golfers think.

Next time you’re out playing make an effort to aim your club face to your intended target correctly at address. Here is an example: If your feet are aimed to the right (like the majority of amateurs are) and your club face is pointed way left, you have a very high percentage chance of hitting the ball to the left, not to the right because of your feet. It’s all about the club face.
